Josselin : Medieval town, (petite cite de charactere), with an awe inspiring chateau on the banks of the Nantes-Brest Canal. A very popular tourist centre with many interesting old buildings. Saturday market. (15mins) Locmine : Medieval town with charming town centre, large shops and supermarkets out of town, excellent swimming pool complex. Thursday market. (10mins) Pontivy : Napoleonic town, with a 15th century chateau, (tourist information office by the chateau), Nantes-Brest Canal and River Blavet. Large out of town shopping centres. Indoor bowling. Monday market. (25mins) Ploermel : Lac au Duc with lakeside beach - good for children - plenty of shade, sailing & windsurfing, golf course. (25mins) Lizio : Attractive medieval town with "petite cite de charactere" status - popular with tourists. (30mins) Vannes : Historic capital of Southern Brittany near the coast. Lots to do - very large Saturday market - recommended. (30mins) Lorient : Famous former naval town & port, once gateway to the Orient. Lovely harbour. Don't miss the popular Lorient Festival - held every summer. (45mins) Malestroit : Old market town with a fascinating resistance museum - recommended. (45mins) Southern Brittany Coast : Auray (nr Vannes) has old harbour with cafes, The Golfe du Morbihan offers boat trips round the islands, Carnac - popular long sandy beaches, Quiberon - clifftop walks and water sports.
